System Center Operations Manager 2012 R2 – Generating Notifications by Management Pack

Configuring Subscriptions to receive e-mail Notifications for Alerts generated by a specific Management Pack is one of those tasks that should be very easy. When authoring the subscription there should be a criteria called raised by a specific management pack‘ but there is not. Instead we will need to use the condition ‘raised by any instance in a specific group which is always defined in the management pack. Of course this raises the question of ‘what is the proper group name?’

  1. Start out by going to Monitoring and clicking on the view that has the Alerts you want to be notified on. For example, Microsoft SQL Server / Active Alerts
  2. Right-click Active Alerts and select Properties
  3. The correct group name is listed in the Show data related to: field. In this case it is ‘SQL Role’
  4. Create a new Subscription and under criteria, select raised by any instance in a specific group and enter ‘SQL Role’. Select additional criteria as needed. After finishing the Subscription wizard, all Alerts generated by the Microsoft SQL Management pack will be sent to the Subscriber of your choosing.

You can use this process for any Alert View in the Monitoring pane. You can also add multiple groups for the raised by any instance in a specific group criteria.
